Preparation
Before first use, sterilize your Elskbar Menstrual Disc by boiling it for 4-5 minutes. Then it is completely clean and ready to use.
Before inserting your menstrual disc, start by washing your hands. A tense body can make insertion more difficult, so take a deep breath and find a comfortable position. Most people prefer:
Sitting on the toilet
Squatting with the knees apart
Standing with one leg up (e.g. on the edge of the toilet)
Fold the disk
The Elskbar Menstrual Disc is soft and flexible, so even if it initially looks too big for your body, you can easily pinch it for a smoother insertion. Hold the disc like a bowl and squeeze it into an oval or figure-eight shape. Make sure the small handle is facing downward and away from your body when inserting the disc.
If you’re feeling a little dry (especially if you try it outside of your period), you can moisten the front edge with a little water or a bit of lube to make the process even easier.
Inserting
Unlike tampons that go straight up, your Elskbar Menstrual Disc should follow the natural curve of your body. This means:
Angle it backward toward your tailbone, not straight up.
Gently push it back into your vagina until it can’t go any further and sits just below your cervix.
Once it’s in, use a finger to tuck the front rim (the end with the handle) up behind your pubic bone. This ensures the disc stays securely in place.
If it fits correctly, you shouldn’t be able to feel it at all – just pure, undisturbed comfort.
Check if it fits correctly
Once the disc is in place, it should feel secure and comfortable. You shouldn’t be able to feel it – if you do, or if it feels like it’s slipping, don’t worry. Use a clean finger to check if the front edge is properly pushed up behind the pubic bone. Shake your hips and dance a little dance to feel that the disc stays where it should.
If it doesn’t feel right (hurts or if it slips out), take it out and try again. It’s perfectly normal to have to take a few tries before you find the perfect fit. Give yourself time and peace – soon the insertion will feel completely natural.
If you’re new to menstrual discs, it can be a good idea to practice inserting and removing it in the shower – that way, any small mishaps are instantly rinsed away!
